FAQs

How does Split 50-50 work?

Split 50-50 is essentially a raffle held usually during a single day at a particular event. Tickets are purchased by patrons throughout the venue with mobile touch screen devices, usually their own mobile phone. The gross proceeds of Split 50-50 tickets sold at the event go into a prize pool. 50% of the prize pool will go to the winner of the random computer-generated draw which occurs towards the end of the event. Proceeds from the remaining 50% are allocated to the not for profit or charitable organisation hosting the event.

Participants receive an SMS via their mobile device notifying them of their ticket purchase and providing them a direct URL link to their tickets and every ticket transaction is digitally recorded. This link also provides participants with access to the prize pool event information in real time via their mobile device. Where possible real time prize pool information is also updated to display screens throughout the venue.

What are the prize values?

Split 50-50 guarantees the winner will receive 50% of the value of the gross ticket sales. The winner will receive the cash prize (via Electronic Transfer of Funds).

How is the draw conducted?

Draws are conducted at the venue at a designated time requested by the host organisation. The draw time is notified to all potential participants prior to any ticket sale occurring. Draws are conducted under South Australian Government licensing regulations by way of a random draw. A Split 50-50 official who is not a ticket holder is responsible for the conduct and supervision of the draw.

Who are you regulated by?

In South Australia the legislation governing the conduct of the Split 50-50 draw is the South Australian lotteries Act 2019 and Lottery Regulations 2021.

How are the winners notified?

The winning ticket number holder will be notified immediately following the draw via automatic SMS followed by a phone call within 30 minutes. Where possible the display screens will be updated, and the venue announcer will also communicate the winning ticket number to patrons. Further, the URL link available to all ticket holders will display the winning ticket number, as well as the Split 50-50 website.

What if the draw fails?

If the draw is not able to be completed by the end of the event Split 50-50 will do everything it can to make sure the draw is done as soon as practical following the event. If possible Split 50-50 will then announce and publish the winning ticket number via its normal means. If a failure does occur, please be sure to check our website, follow us on social media or contact us via the details provided on this website. If for any reason any aspect of the competition is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of computer virus, telephone network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond its control, Split 50-50 may at its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition, or invalidate any affected entries, subject to the approval of the relevant authorities in the relevant State, if required.

What is the price of tickets?

Ticket costs for a Raffle with a maximum prize pool of $10,000 (winner $5,000) are:

  • 3 tickets for $5
  • 10 tickets for $10
  • 40 tickets for $20
  • 125 tickets for $50
  • 300 tickets for $100

There will be an unlimited number of tickets available for sale for each draw.

What are the odds of winning?

There will be an unlimited number of tickets available for sale for each draw. Your odds of winning the prize money is directly related to the number of chances sold in each draw. If 10,000 tickets are sold and you have spent $5 and received 3 tickets, the odds of winning are 1:3,334. In the case where you purchased 40 tickets for $20 then the odds of winning are 1:250. As the draw increases in value throughout the event, your chances of winning decrease although the prize value increases.

Who do I contact if I win?

If you are the lucky winner, you will be contacted by SMS and phone call within 30 minutes by a representative for the Split 50-50 draw. If, for a particular reason, communication between parties is not made, please email dos@split50-50.com.au or text 0428 010 447 or call 08 8322 1839 during normal business hours.

What if I lose my ticket?

You are required to present your ticket (i.e. your encrypted SMS on your mobile phone) to collect the prize so it is important you keep it safely. If you are concerned about losing your SMS ticket, you might want to take a photo of your ticket from a smartphone. Split 50-50 will accept an image of your ticket that clearly displays the ticket number as proof of purchase. Please check your ticket as soon as you purchase it and ask one of our friendly volunteers if you have any questions.

What if the prize is not claimed?

The period for claiming the prize is three months from the day the prize winner is declared. If the prize is not claimed within three months we may apply the proceeds to the host of the relevant event, subject to South Australian lotteries Act 2019 and Lottery Regulations 2021.

Do the raffle sellers receive a commission?

No, in fact any raffle sellers are giving their time on a voluntary basis. We may have some regular paid staff working to ensure the day runs smoothly and our partner organisations may also choose to pay extra staff.

How can I volunteer to assist with Split 50-50 draw?

Split 50-50 volunteers possess good social and managerial skills and perform roles efficiently and responsibly. They are committed to social causes and community involvement and potentially keen sports followers. We encourage anyone interested to contact the benefitting not-for-profit and charitable organisations directly.

Split 50-50 aims to keep its expenses as low as possible so the maximum possible funds can be applied to not-for-profit and charitable organisations.
